Floor Sanding and Polishing floor care

You have just decided to pay for Floor Sanding and Polishing. What does it take to maintain and care for your newly sanded and polished timber floors doesn’t have to be a labour-intensive task?

It starts with adding heavy duty felt or rubber cup feet to the bottom of your furniture. This prevents permanent marks or scratches appearing on the timber surface. If you need to move furniture it would be best to use a soft rag on the bottom of the furniture to slide along the floor.

Some other thoughts to consider

Regularly vacuum with a soft bristle head or an electrostatic attachment. Use a static mop during the day to preserve your new timber floors. Mats at all entrances lessen the likelihood of items stuck on the soles of shoes coming loose and causing damage to your floor.

Shoes that have high heels can create dents in your floor. It is best not to put on these shoes until you are in an area close to the exit of your property.

Good habits

Pets also cause some damage to your timer floors, particularly larger animals or pet breeds that have longer nails. If your pet does come inside, it is important to keep your pet’s nails clipped short.

Wipe up spills as they happen and a warm water and damp mop combination are good to use on floors during the week. It is not recommended to use any steam mops on your new sanded and polished floor. This can push moisture into the timber. Either way, it is best not to over wet the floor as the water may cause warping in the timber surface and joints.

Floor rugs are best for the high traffic areas for your floor and are a great style addition to any of your living areas.

You will naturally see a change in your floor as the season’s change, from summer to winter months. Therefore, it is best to reduce the effects of Sunlight on your floor by keeping blinds or curtains closed. This is especially relevant in Queensland in our Summer months to avoid heat expanding the timber.
